Do you have a hard time opening your door? When doors stick, they can be frustrating and become hazardous for guests. Here are a few tips to get your door back to normal, as well as notice issues early on as well for any future damage.

First, identify why the door is sticking. This can be due to humidity, changes in temperature or the door warped.

If the door is swollen due to humidity, open the door and prop it open with a wedge to allow the moisture to escape. You can also try using a dehumidifier in the room.

If the door is sticking because it is warped, you will need to plan to replace the door.

You can also take some preventative measures to keep your doors from sticking in the future. Make sure to keep the area around the door well-ventilated and free of moisture. You can also use a door sweep or door seal to create a barrier against drafts and moisture.

Loose screws and hinges

This will be very common when the bottom jamb of the door is loosened. Luckily, this is a quick fix. Simply remove the jamb as gently and carefully as possible, and then reattach it a bit more tightly. This will cause the door to sit higher up and not sag against the floor. Also, if you happen to have a nearby carpet or covered portion of the nearby service, this will be a piece the door often sticks on. Once lifted again and back to a less strained position, your door should stick far less.
